Promade fans are the fastest way to speed up a volume set, but only if you grab the right fan for the job. Too heavy and you stress the natural lash. Too light and the set looks thin in photos. Here's how BWL artists pick between 3D, 5D, 6D, 8D, 10D and 14D, and what the number actually means.

What does the "D" mean on promade fans?

The number is how many extensions are in each fan. A 3D fan has three lashes joined at the base. A 14D fan has fourteen. More lashes means more density, so the higher you go, the finer the diameter needs to be to keep the fan light on the natural lash. That's why our fan sizes step down in diameter as they go up in count.

3D promade fans: soft and wispy

Three-lash fans for hybrids, light volume and clients who want texture without heaviness. BWL 3D loose fans come in 0.07 and 0.10, 8 to 15mm, in C, CC and D curl.

5D promade fans: natural volume

The everyday volume fan. 5D in 0.07 gives a full, natural look and works on most natural lashes. Want something different? Our 5D Camellia fans come in stepped length sets like 9-11-13.

6D promade fans: the workhorse

6D in 0.07 is where a lot of artists live. It's full enough for a true volume set and still light. It's also our deepest line: loose fans, the Big Box 6D, 8 to 11mm Shorties, 10 to 13mm Main Squeeze, brown fans, double spike fans and single-length trays.

8D promade fans: full volume

8D drops to 0.05 so you can add density without adding weight. Reach for it when a client wants a darker, fuller lash line and her natural lashes are healthy enough to carry it.

10D promade fans: fluffy mega volume

10D in 0.03 is the start of mega volume. The ultra-fine fibers keep it light while the lash line reads dense and dark.

14D promade fans: maximum density

14D in 0.03 is for full mega volume sets when you want the most density and the least time making fans by hand.
